Tim Threlfall grew up in Lancashire. From childhood, art, and drawing and painting in particular, were his passion. During his school and college years he was introduced to photography as a creative medium, and an interets in combining photos with other media began and continued through to university.

From 1994 to 1997 he began studying for a BA in photography at West Surrey College of Art and Design. In 1998 he moved to Lancaster and completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education with a view to being an art teacher. Realising that he needed to make some money, and having an interest in technology and the early internet, he decided to seek his fortunes in London. After several years and several IT related jobs, he moved to Leith in 2003, where he has worked in digital whilst continuing his creative pursuits.
