I just got a new Lowepro Fastpack 250 Backpack so I thought I’d take it out for a test drive. I packed in my camera gear and took it out with me on a walk this weekend which took us up Caerketton Hill which is near the ski slope at Hill End which you can see from the A720 when you’re joining the A702 from Edinburgh, heading to the boarders.
We started off from Boghall Farm, just off the A702, and boy was the name apt! It was very muddy underfoot and we were glad of sturdy boots and gaiters. There was a long but steady climb up to the dip between Caerketton Hill and Allermuir Hill. But coming up to the dip, suddenly a fantastic vista of Edinburgh came into sight. We were lucky with the weather as it was a clear day and we could see right over to Fife very clearly.
Heading up to the windy summit of Caerketton Hill (478 m) we were treated to not only an even better view of Edinburgh and beyond, but also looking the other way, an amazing view of the rest of the Pentland Hills, as per the photo in this post.
The backpack itself was comfortable and light to carry. The side-entry compartment allowed me to quickly get the camera out without having to take to backpack off my shoulder, which was ideal, and the mesh side pocket kept my flask of coffee secure, which is always important!
